Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Technicians
As a PDI Technician you will be inspecting vehicles prior to them leaving the PDI Centre or car sales forecourt. Typically a PDI Technician will be checking that the vehicle is in good order, visual under body checks, ensuring brakes and suspension looks in good order, they will check fluid levels, diagnostics and clear down any faults, check the tyres, if they are new vehicles then book packs are likely to be put in the car and number plates fitted to the correct legal standards.
On average a PDI Technician will earn £12.82 per hour (£25,000 per annum), more experienced PDI Technician can earn up to and in excess of £16.34 per hour (£34,000 per annum).
Vehicle Technicians
Vehicle technicians or mechanics are the people that repair the vehicles when there is a problem with it, they will have a good knowledge of a vehicle and will be able to troubleshoot problems to find the cause and repair it accordingly. They may also use diagnostic kits to find out what a fault code is showing for and to establish the best repair method. Vehicle technicians will also be required to do a lot of servicing.
Vehicle technicians will usually be qualified at NVQ (or equivalent) Levels 1, 2 or 3, some will be time served whilst others may go on to specialise in specific areas, such as motorsports or hybrid engines. Some of Igloo’s clients will have contracts with their own customers and due to contractual agreements, they will need a certain ratio of qualified technicians to time served technicians. In some cases, a Level 3 qualified technician is required to sign off certain types of work, usually warranty recall work.
The salary for a Vehicle Technician will vary dependant on their skill set, qualifications and experience. On average a vehicle Technician will earn £13.81 per hour (£28,726 per annum).
Enhancement Technicians
Enhancement technicians are required to install aftermarket fitments, such as hand free kits, sat nav systems, beacons on the top of vehicles, tow bars, add racking into the back of vans, front and rear cameras and front and rear parking sensors, to name but a few. Igloo have supplied workers that have converted basic vans into AA Recovery Vans, Amazon Delivery Vans, Welfare Vans that are used by road workers and we also supply workers that fit sat navs and ply line the back of vans out.
